Briefing Process
What is a briefing?
A briefing is an informal meeting with Jupiter analysts and research associates conducted at one of Jupiter's offices or by phone. A briefing lasts about 30 minutes and is intended to inform Jupiter about a new company or announcement and familiarize Jupiter research analyst with a venture and its offerings.
I am a client, and I have a question for an analyst regarding a report or Jupiter research in general, should I request a briefing?
No, please do not submit a briefing request. Instead, please proceed to our Inquiry page and submit a request. The briefings process is not designed to accommodate the needs of clients in search of analyst access.
I have briefed Jupiter before, why do I have to fill out the form again? Why can't I contact an analyst directly?
After several years of managing briefings, Jupiter research has created a proprietary system to make sure that all requests for briefings are showcased to all potentially interested parties within Jupiter Research, and to ensure that every request is handled in an efficient and timely manner. Each request is documented in our system as a discrete event for tracking and quality assurance. Any request not processed through this system may be lost or disregarded.
Furthermore, briefings are granted at the discretion of analysts and Research Associates depending on the nature of their schedules, deadlines and workloads. We cannot guarantee that every request will be granted a meeting, however, every request will be reviewed thoroughly by Jupiter Research staff. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
What is the format of a briefing?
Typically the first part of a briefing consists of an introduction of a company's background, product or service offering, and competitive positioning. Please plan on about 10 to 15 minutes for this portion of the briefing. Presentations are often used to aid in this but are not required. Most Jupiter analysts like to keep briefings to a conversational format, and will interject with questions or clarifications. Often, 10-15 minutes are set-aside at the end of the briefing for Q & A.
Who usually conducts or attends a briefing?
This depends on the structure of your organization, but typically briefings involve high-level executives (VP or Higher) in the marketing, sales, or technical departments of Internet companies. Often, one or two public relations or corporate communications' associates also attend, but they are not a requirement for the briefing to take place.
If the briefing is in person, what is the proper attire?
At Jupiter we dress in 'business casual' attire. However, more formal attire is appropriate, too, of course.
What type of A/V equipment is available?
In most cases, presentations delivered by laptop are more than adequate. If your company needs special arrangements, such as a projector, Internet access or other specialized facilities, please indicate this on your request submission or when you schedule the meeting.
Where do I send materials before the briefing?
Please forward all briefing related materials directly to the analyst/Research Associate with whom you will be meeting. A Briefings Coordinator will provide you with the proper mailing or email address when you schedule the meeting.
Can we host a briefing offsite?
Normally, Jupiter analysts prefer to conduct briefings at one of our offices or over the phone via a conference call. Exceptions to this would be product or service demonstrations or special meetings associated with outside events (a Jupiter Forum or Event).
I have submitted my request and received an email indicating that no one will meet with my client/company at this time, why is this the case?
Given the complex research and advisory schedule of our analysts, it is not possible to provide a briefing for every request that is submitted. The email indicating that a briefing is not possible at this time should explain the situation further. Please feel free to submit another request at the next major announcement or prior to your next press or analyst tour.
How often should my client/company brief Jupiter analysts?
Face to face or phone briefings with an analyst work best for your most significant announcements, including mergers, business focus changes, and the like, and in any case should occur no more than quarterly. Please feel free to keep analysts and Research Associates apprised of other updates between formal briefings via emails and press releases.
Our plans have changed and we will not be able to make our meeting, what should we do?
Please contact the Briefings Coordinator that helped you arrange the meeting as soon as possible to reschedule the meeting. Please DO NOT contact the analyst or Research Associate, as they will not be able to reschedule the meeting.
