Associate Analyst, Music and Media
San Francisco, CA or New York, NY

A media analyst at JupiterResearch is a thought leader and industry figure in the fastest-growing sector of entertainment and media. JupiterResearch's brand and resources, combined with your skills, provide a platform for the analyst to understand and guide the industry forward, assisting companies in capitalizing on digital media, and, in the case of music, perhaps "saving the industry." The music and media analyst works with the media and marketing team to advise clients on building the most profitable online and digital strategies by analyzing best practices, implementations, and business objectives.


Job responsibilities:
 

  • Establishing a reputation as a thought leader in the music and media industry
  • Making JupiterResearch clients successful in their online strategies via advice and analysis, presented in consultation and report form
  • Helping define the future of entertainment and media by producing 12 to 15 insightful, forward-looking and actionable research reports per year in collaboration with other experts at Jupiter
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key industry players through daily research activities and by attending industry events
  • Providing insight and advice by e-mail and telephone in response to client inquiries.
  • Presenting research findings to clients and at industry events, and providing support to the sales team with on-site presentations and telephone conferences for prospective clients
  • Working closely with Jupiter's data research group to design consumer surveys, field executive surveys and build market forecast models
  • Serving as a resource for journalists covering this domain, responding to press inquiries and participating in print, TV and radio interviews
  • Traveling to client sites and industry events as required, generally around 10% to 15% of your time

Qualifications include:
 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in online product/programming, marketing or business development at a media company, record label, or music media company, or at a consultancy that works with them
  • A fierce intellectual curiosity about the impact of the Internet and new consumer technologies on traditional and online media. The ability to go beyond punditry to apply that thinking to practical business decisions, both near- and long-term
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytic ability (critical thinking & data analysis)
  • The ability to create, articulate and substantiate a strong point of view, and back it up with data (consumer & executive surveys, forecasting, audience behavior analysis)
  • Poised and authoritative presence when speaking to senior executives and the press
  • Stature as or aspiration to be a thought leader in interactive media and marketing
